Unknown to many of Manitex Liftking’s customers is our Specialized Carrier division where we have been designing and manufacturing heavy lift material handling equipment for over 15 years. Our major customers are in the steel making, ship building,and nuclear power generation industries.
Steel Mill Transporter
The steelmaking industry uses our transporters to handle up to 300 tons of scrap metal, molten steel and finished products such as coils and pipes. After driving under a propped up load, the entire transporter can lift up to 20 inches raising the load off the ground.

Ship Building Transporter
Utilized in the ship building industry, our specialized transporters are capable of handling extremely large loads efficiently and safely within the shipyard.These loads comprise of entire ship sections ready to be assembled into the latest container ship or oil tanker. Each section could weigh up to 300 tons which is why a computer controlled platform is essential to maintain a level and steady load,along with precise steering control and effective braking.An underslung operator cab allows for maximum load area and operator safety.
Slag Pot Carrier
Our slag pot carriers transport up to 150 tons of molten slag from the steel mill furnace to the slag pit. At the slag pit the pot is tipped 180 degrees to dump. It takes a special type of operator to dump a 150 ton load of slag at 1400 °C.And it takes a special type of machine to allow him to do this.
Nuclear Transporter
The nuclear power generation industry is using our highly specialized 80 ton capacity transporter to move used nuclear fuel bundles from the water storage bay (after sitting underwater for at least 10 years, during which they have cooled and become less radioactive) to the permanent storage facility on-site. Every aspect of the transporter is designed with multiple layers of safety interlocks,and it can also be operated by radio control to remove the operator from harm’s way. |
